About Us
Micelio is a collaborative project of expats in Barcelona, aiming at researching and mainstreaming local, community-led solutions for climate mitigation and adaptation. We are an international platform and an expanding network of citizens who want to be part of the change, or are already engaged in transformative projects and communities. We created this online bilingual Portal to provide useful information about the Catalan and Spanish transition movement and its actors in a user-friendly, organised setting.
The Portal is fed by a constantly growing open Database, being built by volunteers and collaborating partners mainly from Catalonia, Spain and Europe. We are mapping initiatives, identifying best practices and investigating their adaptability in different environments. Our aim is to support knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration between individuals and communities, because we believe that this helps to achieve a more inclusive society and a higher social and ecological impact.
Our Goal, Vison & Mission
Goal
We want to support individuals and communities on the transformative journey to a more sustainable future. Resilient communities create regenerative cultures and sustainable societies – to support this process, we connect people and provide opportunities for theoretical and practical learning.
We are strengthening the intercultural collaboration in Barcelona and Catalonia driven by the need of several students, expats and locals who want to take action but don’t know how to start, where to find information, resources, partners or communities.
We want to be part of the solution to overcome our biggest challenge – climate change – and achieve a higher level of human existence by creating sustainable and regenerative cultures that are inclusive, equitable, solid and non-harming.
Vision
The emergence and impacts of the transition movement proves that community-led initiatives have a huge potential and an inevitable role in climate change adaptation and mitigation.
We believe in the power of networking, mutual learning and collaboration which supports citizens in transitioning to a more sustainable and just future.
Our long-term vision is a community space (possibly a rural house with land) for organizing meetups, eco-camps, workshops, retreats and for having a place for experimentation with permaculture, bioconstruction and co-living.
Mission
We are building a networking and learning platform (Micelio Portal) together with and for engaged pioneers who want to learn and practice regenerative skills, and for everyone who are eager to discover and join the community of local change-makers.
We provide opportunities for co-creation and collaboration to those who want to take joint actions: we promote projects, places and events on our online platforms and we place a great importance on the personal events (meetups, field visits, workshops, eco-camps etc).
By mainstreaming community-led initiatives and best practices we want to make information, knowledge and tools accessible for citizens, including those who struggle with finding entry points to local communities and projects (particularly expats in Catalonia).
Who we are?
We are a forming international community and an expanding network of changemakers in Barcelona and Catalonia who want to build resilient communities.
We develop a knowledge and skill sharing platform of locals, expats, students and professionals learning and practicing transformative and regenerative skills.
What do we do?
The transition to a better future is a long but exciting journey on both individual and community level. The global transition network is constantly growing by connecting thousands of engaged peers and experts and we want to contribute to this evolution on a local level. If you want to learn more about the transition movement itself, we suggest you exploring the website of Transition Network, the biggest European organisation for sustainable transformation.
In order to locally support this great global mission, we research, identify and promote best practices of local ecological communities, in collaboration with local and international peers, experts, communities and organisations. We aim at finding synergies between the existing projects and building together an open-source knowledge common for community-led action on sustainability, climate adaptation and climate mitigation. We organise events and activities (workshops, meetups, field visits etc.) to bring people together and enable skill sharing, mutual learning and networking.
